MTV Goes Hawaiian
Never short on reality show ideas (amazing, but true), MTV has two new shows on tap:
MTV is starting production on two new reality series in Hawaii this week.
Living Lahaina “features a group of friends who work as surf instructors at the Royal Hawaiian Surf Academy in Lahaina, Maui,” The Hollywood Reporter reports, while Island Fever “explores the lives and loves of a group of friends and lovers as they struggle to stay loyal in their relationships and find the answers to life’s bigger questions while dealing with the excitement of the revolving door of tourists who are looking for a good time.” That’s quite a melodramatic description.
Thanks to Reality Blurred for the scoop:
The Honolulu Star-Bulletin reports that the surf instructor show “include[s] an undisclosed mixture of Hawaii residents and people imported from the mainland,” while the other series includes a “cast [that] already lived on Maui, and most were born and raised there.”
MTV has ordered eight half-hour episodes of each show, and they’re scheduled to air early next year. The Star-Bulletin notes that “‘Living Lahaina’ started shooting on the Valley Isle yesterday, and ‘Island Fever’ begins filming next Friday.”

Hi,
Just to nominate an original blog in London:
http://www.nudecleaner.blog.com
Its a nude cleaner’s diary where a Latin American guy writes about his adventures in London cleaning toilets in the nude.
Cheers.

Interesting that MTV is deciding to do a show on surfer’s in Hawaii.. It should be an interesting spin from seeing rich kids deal with their love lives. It should also be interesting to see if the two surf instructors who taught my family and I from Royal Hawaiian surf academy last summer will make appearances on the show.. that was also in Maui.

Puh-lease! There is nothing real about “Living Lahaina”. I live in Lahaina, have seen them shooting, and have a hard time believing that any locals would be involved in this lame production. Scenes are set up, and honestly, there really isn’t that much going on here. We’re pretty laid back, so any drama is likely to be brought in by the imported cast members.
MTV Reality World - New Show Alert: “Maui Fever”
Jan 4, 2007 at 3:11 pm
[…] We first reported about the show back in August. Not to say we’re know-it-alls, I swear. But we now have all of the deets courtesy of the MTV press release. We’re introduced us to a surprising cast of (gasp!) attractive young people who like to party and like drama even more. Of course, MTV expressed it a little differently: Maui Fever explores the lives of several young Kaanapali, Maui locals navigating their way through life on the small island, juggling the revolving door of tourists while trying to maintain stable relationships and establish what they want for their future. The constant threat of temptation causes waves for Cheyne, Chante, Anthony, Anna, Corbin, Sean and Jesse who are just trying to make a good time out of life. […]

What a joke! You honestly exapect to introduce the “Maui” lifestyle to the world using a bunch of blonde bimbos and their boytoys?!?! I went to school with Chaunte; she’s a bitch and had a pretty intresting reputation around campus.
And Lahaina! Come on! The only interesting thing that happens there is on Halloween. Why focus on one (lame) area? Why not branch out? A group of kids in Paia, Kihei, Kahului. I mean honestly…you could have been a little more original don’t you think?
I’m rather saddened by the fact that out of all the interesting people on Maui you picked the most lame, most stereotypical bunch. Just goes to show you how desperate you people are to make a couple extra bucks.
Way to spread the Aloha.

Another stupid show that MTV is coming out with. Stay on your own land MTV! Try taking real locals that are having their land and hawaiian culture ripped away instead of stupid white kids who’s main concern is who their going to hook up with!

It’s funny seeing the previews to MTV’s “Maui Fever” and not recognizing a single person. This is such a small island and my family is on the West side. I know people who were taped in the “Living in Lahaina” episodes (not impressed) but “Maui Fever” seems to be about residents and tourists who do not reflect, in anyway, shape or form, local people and culture. Not to mention the lack of multi-etnicity that is very prevelent through out Hawaii. It’s unfortunate that Maui is being depicted in this way, however, MTV was able to find a group of idiots to go along with their vision so more power to them.

I HATE this show!!! There was nothing interesting about the first episode. Just a bunch of 20 year old’s talking about sex. If I want a show about sex I could watch some porn.
MTV what the hell are you smoking?!?! This show lacks substance, I know sex sells, but that should not be the only topic of a reality show. Please MTV take this wack azz show off the air NOW!!!!!!!!

First of all… none of these haole kids are true locals. (MAUI FEVER)
Being born & raised in a gated community somewhere in maui does not make you a true local to Hawaii.
I’m sure all of my Maui boyz would agree… these is the same kids the real braddahs was beating up since hanabadah days.
MTV once again made another fake ass show that is already story lined to what the viewers wanna see.
How convenient is it for MTV to make a show about a bunch of dumb drunk haole guys sitting on a hotel beach, picking up on other dumb haole tourist.
I garrenty they couldnt find any beautiful local girls to be in it because none of them wanted to be seen on national tv with these idiots.
If they really wanna make a show about locals in Hawaii.
Come down to the Big Island & we’ll take those wanna be local kids in the back of Waipio Valley & see if they know how to survive.
If people are wondering why im so mad about this show…
It’s because this just another reason why we locals cant afford to live where we were born & raised. Imagine how many dumb haoles with money in the mainland are gonna see this show & decide to buy property here in our islands.
Its bad enough as it is & its not going to get any better when these types of shows portray a false image of what Hawaii is like.
“If you not grown hea… You was flown hea”
So like Bula’ia said… “Come, come, come… But no fo’ get to go home”

maui fever is an inaccurate depiction of life in the islands. the show fails to cast any other ethnicity other than caucasions when Hawai’i is consisted of many different races! it also disrespects our beautiful island of maui by filming these “locals” drinking underage and overly promiscuous. but i guess thats what MTV is about, right? just in it for the money. cancel the show and end the madness.
aloha.

I’ve been reading the comments on the other posts for the past few days, but I sit here confused. I think Maui Fever is an accurately portrayed show of Lahaina. I’ve lived in Maui for 2 months now and it’s exactly what I see. Maui is a place where white people can party and talk the weird pigeon accent, yah brah. I don’t know why all the so called locals are getting angry because Maui Fever is excellent. It’s a million times better than Laguna Beach. If anyone has a problem why don’t you just fight this white boy or call me haole. You Ignorant locals. One day all white people will own the lands from Oluwalu to Napili. Oh yah, A hui ho brah. In haole, “Goodbye brother” haha. everybody stay pissed at da haoles dat invading. my email is Maui_Fever@yahoo.com.

I agree that Maui Fever is a pretty bad show but I am sure most of the kids in the show did not know it was going to end up showing so lame. The producers pretty much had a story line for the show. As for “Living Lahaina” This show will be a totally different format with a diverse group of guys, some born & raised Hawaii, give the show a chance before you judge, but remember people will always complain about something. Lastly I have to comment on the “call me haole guy” I have lived Maui for quite a few years and I have never heard such comments, He better hope any locals I know don’t find out who he is, this kine person is why haole is a bad word.

maui fever disgusts me. the cast disgust me even more. mtv could not have chosen a more unattractive cast. chauntel (sp, which i don’t give a damn) needs braces & a new face. she has got to be one of the ugliest white girls i have ever seen in my life. and for HER to represent “maui girls” is a disgrace. and as for the guys on the show….i just hope they go into hiding real soon because they are bound to get their white asses KICKED! hahahahaha good for them, losers!

I saw an article on Maui Fever in a magazine, where Anna and Chaunte was pictured. Anna has a tattoo saying “Inne Hukommelse Av Elske - Rodney” which is written in Norwegian. I guess she believes this means “In Loving Memory - Rodney”, but in fact it translates to something like “Inside memory of to love”…it just doesn’t make sense. A “Hukommelse” is the part of the brain you use to remember things; a memory is called “minne”, “love” she’s used as a verb… If correct, it should have said “Med Kjærlig minne - Rodney”. Direct translations rarely work…

Haha, I think the user “Haole” got beat up the last time he went to Hawaii and that’s why he is all “salty balls” toward everyone from Hawaii. Either that or he is extremely ignorant and assumes that everyone in Hawaii is retarded. Haole, ”
Hawaiians are retarded anyways. They wonder why they can’t get jobs and haoles take them all. It’s cause Hawaiians depend on the tourist, yet the Hawaiians can’t speak english. They speak that retard pigeon garbage. It’s worse than black ebonics.
Hawaiians need to get out of Hawaii and let the white man have it!”
He’s the kind of person that makes people from Hawaii have negative feelings toward people who aren’t from Hawaii. He doesn’t even realize that a lot of the people that live in Hawaii and hate people like him are actually people who are caucasian and not from Hawaii. I was born and raised in Lahaina, half caucasian myself, and am off in the mainland making a good living for myself while having a house here and on Maui. I have also been all around the world and exposed to more than the user “Haole” has. The user “Haole” is to me even more ignorant than anyone from Hawaii. He probably thought, prior to going there, that Hawaiians still lived in grass shacks. The guy is such a joke.

Awww Sean Souza…I remember him. Actually had something going for himself while he played football under Coach Urban Meyer at the University of Utah…HOWEVER, Urban dismissed him from the team for reasons including, but not limited to: drug use, not showing up for team meetings and PRACTICE, Failing grades in every class (wow!) lazy attitude and shitty demeanor…could have been something Souza…however, you lack dedication, ambition and any sort of work ethic, thus, the only thing good that will ever become of your life, is your daughter! It’s great to know that you are not a part of her life…that is the best thing that will EVER happen for her…
Oh & hey Leah H….wow! I actually know Sean’s daughter. I believe you called her “a bastard child”…all i can say to you is WOW! Talking about a child’s life here…grow up!!

Natalie…all that bastard means is that the parents of the child were not married upon the birth of the child. Assuming that Sean and the mother of his daughter are and were not married, it is correct that she would be a bastard child. Don’t let the negative vernacular meaning of the term make you think a comment was hurtful when it is in fact correct.

Actually, she thinks it mean “In memory of love-Rodney” So I think the translation is pretty correct.
Anyways, the spelling are wrong… If a norwegian reads it it makes no sense…
But the thought behind the tattoo is offcourse good.. I would on the other hand check out and be sure that the things written on my body was spelled correctly..
