“Maui Fever” - Let’s Chat

I know a lot of you have commented about Maui Fever and very few of those comments are very nice.
Honestly, I couldn’t agree more!
First of all, what is the deal with slinging your swim trunks (are they even called that anymore? Remember when they were called “jammers”?) so low that viewers are exposed to horrifying crackage?
And then there’s the cast!!! Um, if we are to believe MTV, everyone who lives on Maui is white and sports some shade of blonde hair. That’s hardly an accurate portrayal of Hawaii. Sorry to burst everyone’s Laguna Beach bubble.
Finally, DOES ANYONE HAVE A JOB?! All I see is beach time and drink time and hook up time.
The whole show is just kind of disgusting and annoying and hardly worth tuning in for unless it’s to play some sort of drinking game where everyone drinks when one of the cast members pouts.
That’s my take. What’s yours?

I’ve been reading the comments on the other posts for the past few days, but I sit here confused. I think Maui Fever is an accurately portrayed show of Lahaina. I’ve lived in Maui for 2 months now and it’s exactly what I see. Maui is a place where white people can party and talk the weird pigeon accent, yah brah. I don’t know why all the so called locals are getting angry because Maui Fever is excellent. It’s a million times better than Laguna Beach. If anyone has a problem why don’t you just fight this white boy or call me haole. You Ignorant locals. One day all white people will own the lands from Oluwalu to Napili. Face it, the world will be white one day. haha. Oh yah, A hui ho brah.

After watching 10 minutes of this garbage, I almost felt like killing someone (perhaps the white boy who posted previously could give me the pleasure to take out my anger on him). You must be an imbecile to find anything likable about the show, from the cast to the contents. Come on, you can go to the swamps of Louisiana and find people more attractive and less shallow (perhaps we can get the white boy who previously posted to join the cast). What sort of values are MTV trying to sell to America’s youths from this show? It’s ok to be a bunch of 20 somethings LOSERS
as long as you have a good time doing it? Give me a break.

i saw the show just once and that was enough garbage to last me a lifetime the only reason i tuned in was because of the title which was completely deceiving they should’ve called the show ‘a bunch of haole kids acting stupid’ that would’ve been more accurate the true locals are wise not to get involved with this crap

are you retarded??? why would you say that(call me haole you dumb locals)?? don’t say something like that and not leave your name. man up!!!! otherwise please do not say that. you’re just making yourself look bad. i’m not taking any sides because i’m born and raised on maui and most of my friends are of white ethnicity. it’s just about respecting the culture that has everyone upset. but if you can’t understand that concept then you are in serious doo doo.

Wow “call me haole you dumb locals” talking real big behind your computer and anonymity aren’t you? Or are you just trying to get a rise out of us cause you need some attention too? Moved here two months ago huh? You’re gonna learn REAL fast, if you haven’t already. Try, just try, I DARE you to talk like that to some real locals. Not the haoles you hang with, who think are local, REAL ones. And if you were truly reading the other posts the past few days, why would you still be confused? We’re voicing our opinions loud and clear. If you’re still “confused” that just confirms your obvious ignorance. “A hui ho brah”, idiot.

Well, let’s see… I’ve never been to Maui, I’m sure it’s a place to party and have fun in general, but as I watched the show, I couldn’t help but to laugh at these characters!… They sound so ignorant… they act like they have made something of their lives, when really, it’s their parents that have all the money and they have no clue what it’s like to earn a PAYCHECK. Anyway, I’d prefer The Hills over this show, at least they seem less snooty, WORK for a living, and just act more down to earth over all.

This show is so bad that I actually looked for a chat room just to tell someone how bad it is. It’s a bunch of teenagers that are not very good looking trying to hook up. I could go sit in the halls of my local high school and see the same crap. At least have a purpose to the show, or some better looking people!! MTV DROP MAUI FEVER!!

Firstly let me say again that maui fever is a stupid and disgraceful show. Also, to everyone in here that keeps saying “its just a tv show get over it”. Well you obviously do not understand the life and culture in Hawaii. We do not want to be affiliated in any way to such disgraceful behavior that was portrayed on that show. When something deals with Hawaii it is personal to the true locals of Hawaii. And for those of you who said “the portrayal of how the people talk and the general feel of the island is right on” then you ovbiously do not understand or had even experienced the life of the land. The injustice and outrage that we feel does not only come from the pathetic attempt to portray Hawaii in any way, but the fact is that the cast doesn’t even understand Hawaii either. The most Hawaiian thing in that distatseful display of the Hawaiian culture is the location. I am tired of people telling me to “relaxe” “get over it” and “move on” because honestly to move on there needs to be some type of closure. How can anyone “move on” when our reputation is being slandered. In the work place when local Hawaiian people move to the states we are automatically labeled as racist, ignorant, lazy, and other negative concepts because of these shows in which you are telling us to “get over.” Futhermore, this show is no where near to portraying locals regardless of race. Locals can be by birh be Caucasion, African American, Native American, Asian or whatever the case may be and still be true locals. The true locals of Hawaii understand that concept. But what causes outrage is that Hawaii once again is being stepped on and kicked to the side. Except that this time it’s on our own aina. If MTV wants to attempt to replace their sorry excuse of a show Laguna Beach that provides drama I can find in my own classes at school then let them pick on another state because the people of Hawaii are tired of being portrayed as ignorant perverts and whores. Mahalo nui loa for your time. Aloha

Call me Haole u dumb locals … you such an idiot. YOu think you living in Maui for 2 mother fricking makes you a local. please. I agree with kawehilani. You get that girl. Anyways back to the idiot. You stupid or what? You like talk all smack. You think two months relaly is alot of time to be living in Maui for you to make some kind of judgement call saying that this piece of crud portrays da aina in anyway you must be nuts. You better close you waha before someone gives you dirty lickens for reals. You should learn “Nana ka maka; ho`olohe ka pepeiao;
pa`a ka waha.” go look it up if you dont know what if means babooze. And you know what. Just remember you flew here we grew here. Ua mau ke ea o ka `aina i ka pono. And to all you hawaiians from birth and hawaiians at heart ” `Onipa`a.” much love.

hey ‘call me haole’…. after all of 2months, you know it all about maui, huh? how about you keep your mouth shut? i’m a haole from kalihi and i am seriously offended by ‘maui fever’ and by comments of ‘call me haole’. insensitive, close-minded, arrogrant white mainlanders like that embarrass us local white folk. mtv, cancel the show. haole boy, open your mind and your heart. learn to love the islands and the people. or book a flight elsewhere. seriously. the show is not needed. attitudes like haole boy’s are not needed and not welcomed. everyone else, imua. and ‘onipa’a, no ho’i.

I JUST DON’T LIKE THIS SHOW AT ALL.I WATCHED IT ONCE AND THAT WAS GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME. I HATE THE FACT THAT PEOPLE THINK HAWAII IS RACIST. YOU DUMB SHITS!!! THERE ARE ONLY A HAND FULL OF PEOPLE THAT ARE 100% HAWAIIAN. MOST HAWAIIANS ARE ONLY PART HAWAIIANS. SO THERE FOR WE ARE MIXED. SOME OF US COULD BE HALF WHITE HALF HAWAIIAN BUT JUST MORE SO CLAIM OURSELVES AS JUST HAWAIIAN. SO HOW CAN WE BE RACIST IF WE OURSELVES COULD BE WHITE. WE JUST SEE IT AS “THE OTHER WHITE FOLK” OUT THERE AREN’T INTUNED TO THE REAL CULTURE OF HAWAII. THATS ALL. THATS NOT BEING RACIST. SO DON’T GO SAYING THAT WE HATE WHITE PEOPLE. ITS JUST WHY DO THEY MAKE IT SEEM THAT HAWAII IS ONLY MADE UP OF “WHITE” PEOPLE. I SEEN NO LOCALS IN THE SHOW. ANYWAYZ YOU PEOPLE MAKE ME SICK WHEN YOU ASSUME SHIT!!!!!

Uh do you really think MTV was trying to portray how life is in Maui… If you did thats stupid… It is suppose to be a show about kids who drink, party, go to the beach, and hook up all the time… It is the equivilant to laguna beach and i think its a good show… I lived in Hawai’i and its nothing like my life was there, but I am sure it was for some people i like it i think MTV should keep the show and make a season 2

I cant stand the show, if your going to put a reality show on at least put good looking guys & girls on. The guy w/ the horrible hair and herpes on his lip talks like a duck (Quack quack)the two girls are disgusting, one looks like she’s loosing her hair and the other cant control her facial expressions.
VERY SCARY! MTV BRING BACK THE HOT GIRLS & GUYS.”Usually MTV as good taste”

I love Maui Fever! I can’t enough of it. I especially love Chaunte and Anna. They rock! They’re full of passion and spirit. All those with negative remarks, please consider that they are taking a risk by exposing their lives to the rest of the U.S.A. Also, they are so young. We all make different decisions at different stages in our lives. Chuante and Anna are beautiful, smart, kind, and strong young ladies. Keep on rocking girls! I hope that Anthony and Chaunte are really still together like right now! I can’t stand the suspense! I hope Anthony doesn’t give up on a good thing. Chaunte is really a good girl who is just testing whether Anthony is strong enough to be her man. Don’t push too hard, Chaunte. Anthony is a good, solid guy but is young.

Chaunte needs to grow up & learn the true meaning of LOVE. Anna needs to find someone else that has no ties & will love her back. Sorry to say Anna but U sold your soul when U did the nasty with your ex. You must have know that he would go back to Rachel & she is just as crazy to have taken him back. Ladies & guys yes U are all still young & U all need to get your lives in order before making any kind of commitment. Love is out there & it is real. Right now U are all in a puppy love kind of dream. Besides they way your lives are going now, what is it that U really wnat out of life. What are your dreams & goals.

so what do u hawaiians think about the dog bounty hunter, on ohau, . thats pretty much telling everyone that you guys are all druggys?
Kawehilani Reyes
Mar 7, 2007 at 2:43 am
Its ok. I actually watch it once in awhile. But just because he busts people in Hawaii isn’t implying that everyone in Hawaii is druggies. Its exposing the issues of drugs everywhere. He is just showing what one bounty hunter out of many. But there are also other episodes where he does go to the states and face the exact same problems. If other bounty hunters had their own shows where ever they are there would be a bunch of druggies there as well. The show also points out that Hawaii is more than just Paradise and that we generally live the same as everyone else.

I have personally never seen the show, none the less many of the comments here speak to the show as to how it disrespects the Hawaiian culture and is a disgrace to the Hawaiian Islands. What many Hawaiian locals do not understand, is that this show is not based on any opinion. They are going to make the show wether or not you like it, it is about making money, this whole industry is about making money, regardless of how people feel about it. Do you think president Bush could care less about the Hawaiian culture? the Hawaiian people? the Hawaiian islands? the answer is, no. If he did he would help our people out. Fight as long and hard as you want, we wont be heard.

Ok, this is my opinion. This is a TV show with drama ect. Its just TV, seriously do the locals of maui really think that when we are watching the show that we are thinking “wow these guys are representing maui so wel” No we are not, people watch reality TV for entertainment, if the wanted to get a real representation of maui they would watch the discovery chanel. Get a grip people, its only TV. Do you think when people watch Miami Ink or Jack Ass that we suddenly think tattoos represent the majority of Miami, or that guys doing outragoues stunts reprents the majority of American youth? lighten up locals of Maui and see it for what it is…… A TV show about teen….. they just happen to be in Maui…… this show is NOT about maui as a place!
