EXCLUSIVE Interview with Spencer Pratt & Heidi Montag of “The Hills”

For months, I have written some not so nice things about The Hills star, Spencer Pratt. In fact, should you choose to Google his name, this very site is the number two search result (it was number one prior to the interview, but Radar beat me since… damn) and it’s not because I’ve been repeatedly singing his praises. But I decided to put my preconceived notions behind me and see if I could wrangle an interview with Spencer himself. And I did. I had the pleasure of not only speaking with Spencer, but chatting with Heidi as well. That’s right- I said pleasure. They were both gracious, fun and very eager to tell their side of the story.
We chatted casually about their life together, Heidi’s friendship with Lauren Conrad and what you didn’t see on The Hills.
MTV Reality World: People have pretty strong opinions and perceptions about the way you are both portrayed on TV. How accurate do you think that portrayal is and what do you think is the biggest misconception that viewers have?
Heidi: People don’t know every side. It’s a reality show of several people’s lives. It’s accurate of who we are, but sometimes the situations can be misconstrued. It is 20 minute edited drama. They can’t show everything.
Spencer: Heidi and I had just started hanging out when the show started taping and we really liked each other, but suddenly I was considered her boyfriend. We were flirting all the time, following the rules of being single. We were both seeing other people at the same time. We were both players- she was playing the game with me. Heidi has game! She changed her phone number on me 3 times during the show. Reality TV doesn’t follow us 24 hours a day. It’s in pieces that they put together to make a show. The bottom line is I was not doing that stuff to my girlfriend. We were seeing each other and other people.
Heidi: One of the first nights I saw him at Area he came with Audrina and I hadn’t talked to her all summer. I was so mad that she showed up with him. I really liked him that summer…
Spencer: I did show up with Audrina because Heidi changed her phone number on me!
Heidi: When we talk about being players, we mean we’re light and fun and we don’t get mad about not texting each other back and things like that. We like funny shenanigans. In the beginnings of everyone relationship, there’s a lot of kinks. We just happened to go through it on camera with a lot of that being shown. Everyone calls us a married couple because we are always together.
MTV Reality World: What did MTV edit out of the show that you wish everyone had seen?
Heidi: I wish they would have shown more of how Spencer and I are together. We’re fun. We laugh all the time. We’re always doing things together. We don’t fight a lot. We have our ups and downs like every couple, but most of all, our relationship is close to perfect.
MTV Reality World: Heidi, where do you and Lauren stand today? Still friends?
Heidi: Lauren and I are friends, we just don’t see each other a lot. We both have separate lives, me living with Spencer and her living with Audrina. We’re both trying to work on our friendship.
MTV Reality World: What is the status with you and Audrina? Still friends?
Heidi: I really like Audrina. She’s better friends with Lauren since they live together. I really love Whitney. I love all the girls. Whitney and I hang out sometimes because our boyfriends are friends.
MTV Reality World: The big question – is The Hills coming back for season 3 and, if so, what can we look forward to seeing?
Heidi: We are doing a season 3 and it will show Spencer and I living together - the things that couples go through right when they first move in. They go through fights – the toilet seat being left up and stuff like that. It will show all of the girls at our jobs. It’s going to show me working on my album with David Foster too.
MTV Reality World: Heidi, tell me more about your upcoming album.
Heidi: I’m working with David Foster with 143 Records under Warner. The album will be out hopefully in September. It’s very pop - hot, fun fresh, young, and sexy. It’s gonna be a lot of entertainment – a lot of dancing similar to the Pussycat Dolls and Britney Spears.
MTV Reality World: Spencer, I take you to be a wheeling and dealing kind of guy. What projects do you have in the works?
Spencer: My new plan to keep everything secret like a ninja. Too many ideas are taken from me. I wouldn’t even know where to start with that one. My hustle is just too crazy. I’m trying to take over the world.
MTV Reality World: Let’s talk about your relationship. We all have a very skewed idea of what life is like for you both. How are you like every other couple in America and how are you different? What does an average day consist of for you guys?
Heidi: I love talking about this! We’re getting ready right now to get into our new apartment. I think we’re better than the average couple in America - our brains work the same way. We like to be happy have fun. I never knew I could be so in love or so happy. I never knew… We have so much fun together. We’re inseparable. We’re always laughing and having a good time.
MTV Reality World: What’s in the future for you guys?
Heidi: I’m never letting this one go!
Spencer: The bottom line about me wanting to move in with her is that I haven’t left this girl’s side since I met her. I’m obsessed with her. Everyone says I can’t get into the clubs anymore, but the truth is I don’t go to clubs anymore because I like to cuddle up in bed with my girlfriend with some DVDs.
Heidi: I wouldn’t want to go to clubs anymore. I have so much more fun watching DVDs with Spencer and cuddling.
MTV Reality World: I understand you have some blogs coming out. What can we look forward to seeing there?
Spencer: Well, I want to start to have our side of the story come out. I want to get a blog so people can know what’s going on with Spencer on the daily. Lauren narrates The Hills. Spencer is going to narrate his blog. Imagine if Spencer narrated The Hills… It’s how you skew it. If I’m the narrator, wait to see how much people love Spencer.
MTV Reality World: How has the show changed your lives?
Heidi: People recognize us when we go out.
Spencer: They notice us for being in love… I’ve never been this in love in my whole life. Heidi is the sexiest girl I’ve ever met. I wouldn’t leave Heidi for those Playboy bunnies. I wouldn’t leave Heidi for the Playboy mansion!
MTV Reality World: Ok, I’m going to get personal for a minute… Heidi, there are rumors all over the internet that you had a breast augmentation last week. Do you want to comment on that?
Heidi: No comment.
MTV Reality World: This week, the latest rumor on the web is that Lauren and Jason filmed a sex tape that Jason was trying to sell. Is there anything that you guys want to say about that?
Spencer: We heard the tape does not exist and we’re here for Lauren and we feel bad that these rumors are going on.
MTV Reality World: Ok, I’m opening up the floor. Here’s your chance to say whatever you want to the fans.
Spencer: People need to realize that you can’t judge someone just from what you see on TV.
Heidi: People need to realize that we’re in the entertainment industry, period.
MTV Reality World: Anything else?
Spencer: I think we should end it with Heidi is the cutest girl in the world. The end.

Heidi!!!! Do you not realize that if Spencer cared about you then he would care about your relationship with Lauren. If he REALLY cared he would realize how important Lauren DID mean to you and make an effort. Just because you have a boyfriend does not mean that you can no longer have friends. I am married and still have all my girl friends. My husband would never think about talking about them negatively either because he respects me and the friendships I have. And I totally agree with the blog about the abuse. The first thing that happens in an abusive relationship is the isolation of your friends. Well, he has already done that. Let me guess…it was his idea to get the boob job?
I totally agree w/Allison…why did he MAKE Heidi give up her friendship w/Lauren…I don’t like all of my husbands friends but I don’t stop him from talking to them…BUT WAIT A MINUTE!!!!!! I thought this was Lauren’s show…I want to know how she deals with the fashion industry i thought that’s what the show was suppose to be about…how did this idiot get all up in it!!! Everyone knowS there are BULLIES everywhere and MTV is letting this one do it on tv…. lets get back on track and forget about Heidi and THE IDIOT. Okay, Heidi, your a skank! i hope your reading this! I honestly think Heidi wrecked this season completely. During x-mas break, i spent all my time watching laguna beach 1 and 2 and the hills. The first season was sooo good. I was hyped knowing the 2nd season was coming out. But fuck! it sucked! Heidi’s pathetic dramas with spencer, just killed it, made me lose all respect for her as i witnessed how a stupid blonde like her can be easily played.
If MTV decided to focus on Heidi and the loser spencer for the next season, I personally will not watch the show on MTV or their website, even though I think that Lauren is the coolest reality character ever!!!!

Hello people, stop taking Hedi for a fool. There in this together for the fame and look how well it’s working! There both going to be part of next season without even having to be really around LC, on her own show! If thats not fame stealing at it’s height. They know what there doing and it’s working. Heidi was able to move out on LC and still be part of the show. A show she was only on because of being LC’s friend to begin with, now she won’t really even need to do that. Whats next there own series? Don’t be shocked when it happens.

I want to thank The Sports Guy for this link, i cant wait for Heidi’s album, I hope it debuts while they’re filming the next season, I’d love to see her and Spencers reaction to selling next to nothing, except maybe to tweens who are just to young and naive to realize. Oh, and I’m so glad I didn’t grow up in L.A.

i don’t think that heidi actually saw the show because if she did she would realize that spencer is a douche bag and is still a player and is never going to change he says it in the last episode right before he moves out with heidi. Heidi is really going to get a reality check once she watches the shows and sees everything he says. It is true they do edit a lot but what comes out of your own mouth no one can change that. A true boyfriend would never split you from your best friend wheather or not he likes them or not and he would never speak down on her jason never spoke bad about heidi and never pulled her away from heidi just so she wasnt living with her. i am a total fan of the hills, and i am glad that everything turned out well,i am the type of person that gets into these shows, and its something i always love to talk about =] and i always told my friends not to fall for someone like Spencer, until now, i am glad i have a different point of view of him..i always thought he was playing Hedi, which would be terrible becasue Hedi is too good of a person to be played. Everyone calls Hedi a bitch for doing all that friends crap to Lauren, but you know what? They both are probably as happy as they could be right now, so whats wrong with being happy? Seriosuly? Hedi is happy when with Spencer, and Lauren is happ when with Audrina..whats the big deal seriosuly? this you their life, not yours people, so stop saying all these rude comments about them..they are all wondeful people, they are making it better than you right now, so keep your mouth shut!

First off, I understand that they edit a lot on the show. I can see now that maybe they were seeing eachother in the beginning and they were bother players. what is also clear is that once Heidi agreed to move in Spencer he was filmed telling Brody not to worry they would still be going out and living the same player lifestyle. You can’t fake that! I think it will be very entertaining to watch them live together. I don’t think that they should make Heidi leave the show because its way too much fun to make fun of her. All shows need to air headed, vixon type.

As others have pointed out Spencer is a classic abuser. Played mind games with Heidi, ailienated he from her friends, keeps her at home, controlling, narcisstic empty shell of a person.
Heidi’s mom did an interview saying that spencer was a good guy. How the hell would she know? She lives in Colorado!! There’s no way in hell she has any idea and just goes by what Heidi tells her.

I don’t watch this show but if you bump into this website and skim these comments it becomes abundantly clear how many jealous feelings are out there. If you just live life instead of talking about someone else’s you’ll usually find you have many less bad things to say. You too make mistakes; the door swings both ways.

Seriously hedi is stupid, can i just say she is being so manipulated by spencer. It is one of those relationships where he is going to end up controling and/or abusing her. This happens all the time. I just watched the season premier of the hills last night and you can obivously see all the manipulation and control. Example: Hedi and Spencer were just going to leave the club and let the sitiuation be, but no Spencer goes come on hedi lets go roll on her now. Example two: Hedi wanted to paint the wallls yellow discusses it with Spencer and Spencer says no, Hedi comes home to find graffitti like “art” on their walls.
I hope to god that hedi and lauren both watched tv last night. Lauren needs to see that hedi and spencer were clearly the ones who started that rumor about the sex tape cause on the season preview when it shows jason and lauren together again hedi and spencer [i believe hedi] goes “going to make more tapes”, or something to that extent

I think that Heidi comes from a good family. I know this is an edited show but I felt so sorry for her parents when Heidi and Spencer came to visit. I could tell that they viewed Spencer as an Eddie Haskel type and he didn’t fool them one bit. When Spencer mimicked Lauren I thought that they were going to throw up right there. Does he not see himself? He did that again. It is not cute. Sooo Spencer thinks that it is editing that is making him look like such creep? Hey honey, as someone earlier said you can’t edit what comes out of your mouth and those controlling freaky expressions on your face are from within you.

Heidi after three seasons do you not watch the shows? Do you not know how crazy it seems to everyone that you are still with this piece of work?
I think that after the first season, we were all thinking… Okay… after Heidi sees all the shows, she will drop that creep. After the next season I think we were all dumbfounded that you were still with him. I think my favorite show was when Heidi painted over Spencer’s crap on the wall.
By the way… what does Spencer do? Maybe hes like Ozzie and Harriet… No one ever knew what Ozzie did. At least he was a nice guy.
I think that Heidi is in so deep now, she doesn’t know how to get out. If I were her I would start to consider everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
