Gauntlet 3 Episode 3

Lesbian love was in the air on this week’s episode of the Gauntlet 3.  More specifically, Brooke and Ev seemed to be getting serious… or at least that’s what Evelyn thought.  Brooke, on the other hand, determined that her relationship with Evelyn taught her that she could, in fact, find a man that would treat her as well as Ev did.

Going into the first challenge on girl gauntlet day, the rookies were down three challenges (and three` team members), having never actually won anything thus far.  Like most challenges, this one proves to be just as random, dirty and tiring - the teams had to run articles of clothes along clotheslines on the beach while team members put the clothes on, ran into the ocean and soaked up as much water as possible.  They would run back and squeeze out as much water as possible into a container.  The team who filled up the bucket first, won.  And, while it was closely fought, the veterans pulled out yet another win.

Over deliberations, the veterans decided to send Brooke into the gauntlet and save Tori.  Brooke chose to go against Jillian, sending her back into the gauntlet for the second girl’s gauntlet in a row.  As you can probably guess, Brooke didn’t prove to be much competition and Jillian easily beat her, sending Brooke home after a tearful goodbye with Evelyn.

After Brooke’s departure, Evelyn moped around the resort, visibly angry (and, like, kicking and yelling and doing push-ups and stuff), prompting Evan to comment, “Brooke going home is the best thing to happen to the veteran team. Now we have our ninth man, little Evelyn, pissed off. I hope that these gauntlets are a fight to the death. Evelyn is going to kill.”

In true challenge style, the cast partied the night away in celebration of Adam, Katie and Johnny Bananas’ birthdays.  As the night wears on and the drinks go down, Zach gets his head shaved and Casey and Johnny are caught having sex in a closet, resulting in a naked Casey jumping out a window and getting locked out of the house (yeah, I have no idea either).

On the rookie team, Tyrie gets a troubling call from his girlfriend, informing him that she needs open heart surgery.  She insists that she wants him to stay and win, but he obviously feels torn.  He decides to stay and play it by ear.

Total sidenote: Does anyone else have trouble keeping Brad (RW: San Diego) and Danny (RW: Austin) straight?

The next challenge is a guy’s gauntlet challenge and is appropriately titled “Blind Man’s Maze” -  a standard reality show competition where one team member (in this case, Coral and Johanna, respectively) is the eyes of the team, guiding their blindfolded teammates through a maze.   The twist to this challenge is that whichever team completes the task first, wins, giving the rookies (now down four players) a solid advantage.  And amazingly, they managed to keep it, winning their very first challenge and sending Evan into the Gauntlet and protecting Adam.

Evan doesn’t entirely choose his opponent, but he also doesn’t disagree when it is suggested that he go against Johnny Bananas.  Johnny, who believed he was in an alliance with Evan and Kenny was obviously unhappy (as was Casey… I mean, she did jump naked out a window for the guy).  And while Johnny gave it his all in a surprisingly non-physical puzzle challenge, Evan took the Gauntlet, sending Johnny Bananas home.

To cap it off, Tyrie decided to head back to the states to be with his girlfriend, meaning the Rookie’s brief 3 person handicap turned back to four.

Coral quote of the week: “The last time I saw a goodbye like Brooke and Evelyn’s, I was watching the final scene of Titanic. I think it’s sweet that they like each other and that’s great and everything, but I don’t even think Brooke’s a real lesbian. Right?”
