Rock the Cradle Review
Hey MTV fans! A very good friend of mine - artist, designer, music buff, marketing guru, blogger and closet reality TV fan, Matt from The Original Analog Machine - decided to step in a guest blog about the MTV’s newest show, Rock the Cradle.
It was inevitable, right? Eventually the children of famous people would feel the need to prove they can be famous too. Will the kids with talent please step forward? Not so fast Landon Brown….
The Rock the Cradle concept is totally American Idol, complete with some d-list d**che named Ryan Devlin (ed. note: you may have seen him as Mercer, the date rapist on the third season of Veronica Mars) trying to pose as a Nickelodeon version of Ryan Seacrest.
For the most part, I like the show - I think it works. It has a diverse bunch of kids competing and an interesting group of judges (Jamie King, Jude Ambrose and Larry Rudolph). Now if only a renegade satellite would fall out of the sky and take out Ryan Devlin, I think most of the annoying elements of the show would be gone.
But most interesting about the show is that some of these kids are REALLY, legitimately talented. For example, Lucy Walsh is too good for American Idol, and probably too good for this show too. She has real talent and the kind of personality that makes someone stand out as a star. It’s why I think Brooke White from this year’s American Idol competition won’t win and might not have a real career past Idol. Looks and talent aren’t enough. You have to have something special. That something special is why marginally talented people wind up incredibly famous (see Britney Spears, who ironically owes a good amount of her sucess to judge Larry Rudolph).
Here’s my take on the contestents, listed from best to worst.
- Lucy Walsh
- Jesse Blaze Snider
- Jesse Money
- Crosby Loggins
- Lil B. Sure
- Lara Johnston
- Landon Brown
- A’Keiba Burrell
- Chloe Lattanzi
Truthfully, I think the contest belongs to Lucy Wash and Jesse Blaze Snider. That’s right… I said it….it’s a two person competition. Everyone else is just background noise.
What do you think?

I can’t believe that Jesse Money was voted off. Chloe was absolutely awful. I have seen Jesse in concert with her dad, and she is amazing. I plan on seeing them both again this June. This show HAS to be fixed for Chloe to still be there.

i’ve been watching it too and have been very critical of show. spoiled kids using their parents and mtv to gain fame. i agree that you can get buy in the industry with marginal talent and good looks.
i did hear from a pr contact who is giving me an opp to interview lil b sure next week, so i’d love you to support my blog post (link below) with your comments and/or questions about him.

Jesse ‘Blaze’ Snider has more talent than Crosby Loggins? We must not be watching the same show. Jesse Snider cannot sing. If this were a costume party Jesse might win best impersonation of a rock star but since he can’t sing and can’t play an instrument I am shocked that you think he deserves the top spot in a contest looking for the most talented musician’s offspring. I agree that Lucy Walsh has talent and can at least play the piano.

I think it’s all Lucy and Jesse as well. Lucy was amazing last week on the piano when she played that Secondhand Serenade song. :] I cannot believe Jesse got voted off over Chloe though…that still makes me angry. Also Chloe needs to stop making love to the damn stage! I mean come on!!

Jesse Blaze is too cocky. He is a good performer but that doesn’t make him a good singer. Jenna James may be a popular porn actress but she will never get an Oscar. Jesse is the Jenna James of Rock the Cradle. If he survives getting voted out this week, I hope that the next competetion will be a rock ballad. Unlike Crosby, Lucy and Lara, Jesse doesn’t have the versatility to do anything but his hard rock act.

I believe “Get Real” that you mean Jenna Jameson. And the best music is hard rock. (Hence: Rock the Cradle..not serenade us with a lullaby with r&b or easy listening.) Jesse Blaze and Jesse Money are/were the best. They will make it after the show unlike the others. Wait and see..
